We ordered a large, plain cheese pizza from Gabriel Pizza on a Friday night. We had no problems ordering over the phone; the order-taker was friendly, and we could understand her perfectly well. The price was a surprise as it is more than we expect a plain large to cost and as such we expected a better-than-most slice to go along with such extravagance. It came within the time span they provided us, the pizza was warm, and the box wasn’t soggy. Presentation-wise, it was up to par. The cheese was plentiful and was a uniform colour, apart from small browned areas. The crust was a golden brown.
When it came down to the taste test, it was a different story. While being in no way overly offensive to the taste buds per se, the pizza was lacking in every department. The cheese was plentiful but bland. There was so much cheese, in fact, that it’s hard to say what the benefit of getting extra cheese would be. The sauce was pleasant but without character; it was noted that it was very similar to the store-bought cans of sauce that one of our reviewers uses on his homemade pizza. We were expecting better. The biggest shock to us was the fact that there seemed to be butter (or a reasonable facsimile) inside the crust. It could definitely be tasted and it looked like there was a distinct layer of melted butter in the crust. This is not a quality we like to see in pizza. The result was the crust tasting more like a dinner roll than a pizza crust. This was not helped by the fact that the crust itself was very bread-like. It was light, fluffy, and thick and tasted fine on its own, but the buttery middle was definitely off-putting. As for the grease factor, it wasn’t very greasy and overall, the grease didn’t noticeably affect the pizza in any way.
The bottom line is that this pizza is too expensive for being a middle-of-the-road plain pizza. As such, it was decided that there would be no further investigation into Gabriel Pizza.

Cheese: 6 out of 10
Grease: 5 out of 10 (Butter!)

Overall Rating: 5.5 out of 10
A note on our grease rating: We are fans of grease, so more grease equals a higher rating. We have yet to find pizza that is too greasy for our tastes, but it’s probably out there, and we’ll tell you when we find it.
